Augmented and Virtual Reality

What are virtual reality and augmented reality?

Virtual reality (VR) is a simulated experience that can be similar to or completely different from the real world.

Augmented reality (AR) is an interactive experience of a real-world environment where the objects that reside in the real world are enhanced by computer-generated perceptual information, sometimes across multiple sensory modalities, including visual, auditory, haptic, somatosensory and olfactory.

If you’re using this with students and families, you could have students work be the anchor object and have them talk about their learning during that activity.

This could be really fun for students, provided that they are really involved in the process. It could also be used to assessment and sharing with parents during conferences. The issue is that technology can fail, so if this is your only plan for assessment or for the activity you may run into problems that are not easily solved.

I definitely think that this would be way more involved with high school students vs primary students, but that could be my own beliefs about student capabilities.

QR Codes make very good anchor objects. If you’re making it for a web address, the longer the web address, the smaller the black pieces are. So if you use a URL shortener (like bit.ly), you’ll get a chunkier QR code that will be easier for the phone to read.
